Pow Wow?
The why and wherefore of the name Pow Wow
The word “powwow" originates from the language of the Narragansett Indians and actually means “medicine man”. Since the 18th century, it has also been used to describe the traditional meetings and ceremonies of the North American Indians, and indeed figuratively any other similar meeting.
It was not only the interesting word, but in fact the whole notion which caught our attention.
The meetings of the Indians were public affairs, with social, economic, legal, educational, culinary, artistic and other traditional aspects. We could say, they were typical festivals for the whole people.
Our meeting is intended to share this character.
We, too, invite you to discuss and enjoy yourself, to get to know each other, to initiate business, to clear up misunderstandings, to make new plans – all in all, a positive and fruitful get-together.
The traditional powwow dances were accompanied by the rhythmic beating of drums.
We hope that we, too, will stay in rhythm with our guests.
Welcome to Saxony.
